5/27: What I'm Following
K.C. Crosbie, my City Council member, has taken a position I haven't seen in the past: leadership. Not only that, but in an investigation of whistleblowing and the city's possible retaliation against it.
From the Herald-Leader:
There's supposed to be a meeting downtown about the issue today. Joe Sonka from Barefoot and Progressive plans to be there. I will be interested to see what he reports.
Addenda:
1) KC's husband, former City Council member Scott Crosbie, is supporting Jim Gray in November's mayoral election. A blowup in Newberry's face would work in Gray's favor. Makes for interesting gossip, if nothing more.
2) From Joe's Twitter Feed: George Myers is on the audit board, and no one showed him the complaint. He was told council members don't get to see everything. Hmmm.
From the Herald-Leader:
A city employee who said he reported two instances of possible fraud to city officials is about to lose his job, and a city council member wants to know why the administration won't tell her more about the matter.
--Additional Details--
When council member KC Crosbie recently asked to see the documents, city officials told her they were confidential.
But Crosbie wonders whether Johnson's position is being eliminated under the mayor's proposed budget because of the concerns he raised.
"I don't know because I can't get a copy of the fraud questionnaire to be able to evaluate whether his report is legitimate," Crosbie said. "I'm getting the feeling that there's something in there that the administration doesn't want the city council to see."
